In Ireland, the kitchen is usually the centre of the home. Kitchen renovations since Covid have continued on the rise as people got back to eating together as a group or a family more. Here we look at the 5 top trends for kitchen renovations.

Some of the trends may surprise you!

From an aesthetic point, the kitchen is usually connected to multiple rooms and is key to food preparation and entertaining.

The more functionality that it can have, the better and the top 5 trends for kitchen renovations all point towards that and getting back to other traditions.

#1 Expansive Windows

There is a three-fold reason for expansive windows forming a major part of any kitchen renovation. The first is that big windows are a focal point in any room design. You may like them or hate them but you can’t disagree they are a focal point. The second, it cuts down on the amount of lighting you have to use as you have more natural lighting, and the third is that it creates the feeling of more space especially if the windows are floor to ceiling.

They also can help contribute to lower emissions depending on the type of window you choose and that helps the environment.

#2 Extending Your Kitchen’s Reach

When Cork families are choosing to renovate their kitchens, creating more room and more space is one of their priorities and the trend in ’23 looks set to continue with many kitchen renovations looking to add a mud room for children who have been outside playing or add a small pantry area to accommodate changing food trends as more people have begun to cook and prepare their meals at home.

#3 Go with the flow

With those additions or changes being made during kitchen renovations, it is important to remember to retain some flow to the kitchen area instead of creating a beautiful space that feels disjointed. It is one of the things that we try to emphasise to our clients when they are considering renovating their kitchens.

#4 Earthy countertops

The trend with kitchen countertops in our most recent kitchen renovations has been more toward the earthy and organic feeling countertops.  Stone and granite tops are being replaced by dark and lighter-coloured wood. They help give a kitchen a much warmer vibe and will complement most kitchen presses and cupboards.

#5 Keeping cabinet doors simple

Shaker-style cabinets are beginning to be replaced by simple door styles. Shaker has been popular for many years but in keeping in line with the simplicity looks best mantra, cabinet doors are now to the fore or a slimmed-down version of the shaker as some kitchen design companies prefer to call it.

In some renovations, it is common to keep the carcass of the kitchen and just replace the doors with a more traditional look that blends in with windows and the flow of the kitchen area.

There is a new look coming called old fashioned so the move is away from the flat panel and sometimes flat-pack kitchen look.

#6  Concealed storage

The organisation and storage of food and everything else in a kitchen is always a top priority but the trend change for kitchen renovations is for concealed storage space. This is a direct result of the pandemic where storage becomes essential.

Since then it has become more about keeping things organised and avoiding clutter in the kitchen.

The way to lessen the chaos is to conceal more storage for simple things like pots and pans as well as hand towels or sponges that may have traditionally been kept on the countertop.

They now have their own little space in a cabinet. Everything has its place and every place has its thing.

Even concealed spaces where coffee machines can be dropped down and lifted as required from cabinets without even having to open a door.

In Conclusion

While there can be a lot of work involved in creating your perfect renovated kitchen, the work is worth it when you consider how much time you and your family will spend on it.

The great thing is that it will add to your enjoyment of the living space as well as add value to your home.
